PLAYWIRE PARTNERS WITH DEF JAM RECORDINGS TO CREATE NEW DIGITAL REVENUE STREAMS FOR ARTISTS

Playwire, a division of Playwire Media, announced that it has partnered with iconic music label Def Jam Recordings to develop new digital revenue streams for their artists globally that leverage both technology and ad sales. Their main goal is helping artists, publishers, and content creators develop sustainable revenue streams for their business without having to sacrifice copyright and trademark ownership of their content.

"As a publisher first organization, we are determined to provide artists and publishers with technology and services that keeps them in the business of producing great content," said Jayson Dubin, CEO and Founder of Playwire Media. "Def Jam is one of the most iconic brands in music, and boasts one of the most influential artist rosters globally. Their ingenuity and forward thinking are pushing the music industry forward, and we are excited to partner with Def Jam in this new venture."

This partnership reaffirms Def Jam's commitment to embracing ad supported services and business models, while positioning them as an innovator in digital by exerting more control over two critical assets that advertisers want: large audiences and big data. With access models now accounting for almost 30% of total industry revenues, managing the buying and selling of music audiences to advertisers is quickly becoming the future of recorded music revenues," said Dubin.

The Playwire technology platform, as well as Playwire Media's ever-growing network, allows Def Jam to create additional digital ecosystems for both the Def Jam brand and its talent. By leveraging strategic content releases and social influence to generate web traffic, both Def Jam's site and their artist websites can operate as their own web ecosystem.

"Direct ad buyers want deeper integrations then just pre roll running before content -- be it branded content, product placement, sponsored social posts, or exclusive events," states Anthony Alexander, Director of Business Development at Playwire. "We are seeing rapid growth in programmatic ad buying and find that many of our ad partners want to align with social influencers to harness the reliability of an actively engaged fan base. We help them develop unique fan experiences to make a connection with a particular consumer target."

Def Jam recognizes that there are multiple channels and new digital vehicles that constantly need to be integrated into their content strategy. "We're excited to be working with a platform that is publisher first, and recognizes the power, influence, and global reach of the Def Jam brand," says David Bell, SVP Integrated Marketing & Digital Strategy, Def Jam Recordings. "Firmly focused on providing new revenue streams, our partnership with Playwire allows us to connect our artists with premium brands through unique digital experiences."

How it works

Playwire's advanced video technology platform allows brands to produce, post, and monetize video content. Defjam.com and its numerous artist web pages act as a central distribution hub hosting exclusive content. In addition, featuring massive amounts of quality video allows Def Jam, and other brands, to make content accessible to fans everywhere.

Say "Hello" to KAJ Brothers

KAJ Brothers, Orlando’s emerging pop trio releases their debut single and video. The group’s rendition of the classic hit song, “Hello,” written by iconic superstar Lionel Richie, integrates its own orchestral elements and full-bodied abundant harmonies in such a way as to elevate this classic song to new levels.

The trio, all of whom are multilingual and high achievers are based in Orlando, Florida. They consist of Kyle Craichy (vocals, piano, guitar, and dance), Austin Craichy (vocals, piano, guitar, drums, and dance), and Johnny Atys (vocals and dance champion). Kyle and Austin were born and raised in Tampa, Florida, while Johnny is from Paris, France.

KAJ Brother’s genre is Pop/R&B with a classical twist with various musical influences that are not necessarily genre-specific. They range from R&B, Soul, Gospel, Pop and Rock to Classical, Country and the Great American Standards. Some of the great artists and legends that KAJ listens to and have gained influence from are John Legend, N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, Josh Groben, Justin Timberlake, Michael Bublè, Boyz II Men, Lionel Richie, Harry Conick Jr, Frank Sinatra, Kenny Rogers, and the Jonas Brothers.

The debut single, “Hello,” was produced by legendary music producer, Bryan Lenox, and was recorded in Nashville. Lenox is responsible for 51 #1 hit tunes and has been nominated for twelve Grammys, with one win. He has worked top artists including Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, and Michael Bolton just to name a few. The high-end music video for “Hello” was produced and directed by Saylors Brothers Entertainment. Projects produced by the Saylors include an exclusive shoot on the designers of Ferrari (Pininfarina headquarters, Italy), "An Animated Life" with Phil Roman (producer of "The Simpsons" and "Garfield"), "Dreamland" with Jonathan Breck (Star of "Jeepers Creepers"), and "MTV's Most Expensive Music Videos" (launched the single to #1 on the Billboard charts) by artists such as Master P, Snoop Dogg, and Mystikal.

All three of the group members are vocally trained by long-time producer and vocal coach Gerry Williams of Orlando. For over 20 years he has produced albums and demos for his students that have led them to flourishing careers in the music industry. Among whom are Grammy™ nominee and Dove Award winner Francesca Battistelli, and Actress/Singer (Vampire Diaries) Candice Acolla. He has also remixed music for Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, and Justin Timberlake. Williams’ work with major record labels (Warner Bros., Universal, Atlantic, and Sony) is another highlight of his career.

The KAJ Brothers have also partnered with Jay R. Schield at Over The Line in Nashville, TN, who among other things oversees and advises the group and serves as music industry liaison and product manager for the upcoming releases. Schield has worked with some of the top artists and music releases in the industry including P.O.D., Owl City, Randy Travis, Amy Grant, Plus One and Take 6.

KAJ Brothers have a prolific mission: to leave their audience uplifted and feeling loved with the primary purpose of elevating women with true love songs. When asked specifically about this, the group unanimously replied “To make chivalry cool again, and help raise the standards for girls and women while influencing humanity as a whole, to treat women with greater respect.” They have partnered with the International Justice Mission. IJM is a non-profit human rights organization based in the United States that helps rescue victims of human rights including anti-sex trafficking abuse around the world, in the US, Africa, Latin America, and South and Southeast Asia.

Profits Being Donated: KAJ Brothers have committed $10,000 to the International Justice Mission (ijm.org) to kick off their own campaign against sex trafficking encouraging other artists and celebrities to do the same. Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line

Brian Kelley comes from the small town of Ormond Beach, Florida.  As a child, Brian always loved music but when Garth Brooks’ double live CD was released it became a huge part of his awareness of how an artist could pull such strong emotions out of the songs they were singing.  Lyrics have always been the biggest part of a song in his opinion.

His strongest influences include Brooks, Kenny Chesney & Casting Crowns.  “Even if the artists didn’t write the songs they sang, they made you believe it.  You feel like you know them through their songs.”

At age 16, Brian began to sing.  He would help out at his church’s youth band and to this day he is still very involved at Crossroads Church in Lebanon, that he calls home.

One of Brian’s other talents is baseball.  In the fall of 2007, he transferred to Belmont University to play on their team.  Before that Brian had played baseball for Florida State University and then Daytona State College.  His love of the game could not overpower his love of music.

While at Belmont Brian took a class on songwriting and soon after graduation, Brian began to go to local writer’s nights to become more involved in the songwriting community.  It is during this time where he met Tyler Hubbard.  They currently form the emerging duo, Florida Georgia Line.

In the fall of 2011, Brian signed to Big Loud Shirt as his first publishing deal. The guys have become extremely busy as they have been booked to play alongside some of today’s top selling live acts like Colt Ford, Brantley Gilbert & Corey Smith.

Since working with Big Loud Shirt, he has expanded his circle of co-writers and has written with notable writers like Bob DiPiero, Jason Reeves, Blair Daly and Josh Thompson.

In April 2012, Florida Georgia Line released their first single to radio, "Cruise."  The duo landed a slot on the Country Throwdown tour.  Their five song EP, "It'z Just What We Do" was released in May 2012.  A snowball effect of events lead them to sign a record deal with Republic Nashville in July 2012.

About Florida Georgia Line

Florida Georgia Line has skyrocketed since releasing consecutive, multi-week #1 smashes in the US and Canada with the GOLD-certified “Round Here,” PLATINUM-certified “Get Your Shine On” and 6X PLATINUM “Cruise.”

Breaking the record for longest #1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart, “Cruise” has sold over 6.3 million downloads in the US alone and is the second best-selling Country single ever, according to SoundScan.

FGL is the only artist in history to join Brooks & Dunn in having their first three singles hit #1 for multiple weeks each. Poised to follow in the success, FGL’s new emotionally-fueled Top 5-and-rising single, “Stay,” showcases another side of their unique sound and tight harmonies.

Amassing international appeal, the duo recently crossed a new career threshold — tallying more than 10 million tracks sold worldwide from their debut album HERE’S TO THE GOOD TIMES (Republic Nashville), which has been certified PLATINUM in the US and GOLD in Canada. FGL has released a deluxe version of their chart-topping debut, HERE’S TO THE GOOD TIMES…THIS IS HOW WE ROLL, that features five new songs – including a collaboration with Luke Bryan – the “Cruise” (Remix) featuring Nelly; the making of the album and all official music videos with behind-the-scenes footage, as well as the unreleased video for “It’z Just What We Do.”

Comprised of Tyler Hubbard (Monroe, Georgia) and Brian Kelley (Ormond Beach, Florida), FGL is currently on their first headline run, HERE’S TO THE GOOD TIMES TOUR 2013, breaking venue sales records nationwide with sold-out shows on all stops to date. FGL has appeared on Chelsea Lately, Good Morning America, Conan, TODAY, The Voice, The Tonight Show, LIVE with Kelly & Michael, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and FOX & Friends as well as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

In addition to radio, sales and touring success, the talented twosome has been racking up several awards’ show nominations, including nods in the New Artist of the Year category. The hot newcomers have previously taken home ACA, AMA, ACM, CMA and CMT Music Awards and garnered multiple TEEN CHOICE nominations.

JP: I was eight years old when I started to sing. I was in school in the Bahamas and got a chance to sing the national anthem and it went well. I went home and immediately told my dad about it and he encouraged me to continue singing.

FML: Have you had any formal vocal or musical training?

JP: Not really. I was a part of my high school chorus which was a very popular chorus (Boynton Beach High School) and got the opportunity to travel and sing extensively.

FML: If a young, aspiring musician approached you for advice, what is the first step they should take?

JP: Whatever you do be sure you love this music thing. it’s a lot of work and not just a hobby. It drains your pockets. In the end if you really love what you are doing you will enjoy it.

FML: Is there something that you would have done differently if given the chance?

JP: I would have started pushing myself earlier. I would have taken time and made an effort to start my music career earlier in my life.

FML: Is there a particular venue (place) where you dream of performing?

JP: I don’t really have a particular place, but I want to be able to perform in front of millions of people. The venue is not important as long as there are people who have come to hear me sing.

FML: You are releasing a new EP soon. Will it include new material, and if so are the songs different than your previous works?

JP: The EP contains all new material. There are six songs total and it is actually finished. Right now I am deciding on promotion and distribution of the EP.  The music is very different from previous work as it contains pop music, and some Compas. This EP will display much more of what I can do musically.

FML: Is there a musical goal that you want to attain next?

JP: The very next thing I want to do is put out a video for one of the songs on the EP. I don’t just want one of those videos that people can see on MTV from unsigned artists locally. I want the video to go far so that more people can hear about me.

A Visit to the New World Symphony

Publisher's Note: Recently I was able to visit the New World Center, home of Miami Beach, Florida’s own New World Symphony. Although I knew some things about the New World Symphony, my visit proved extremely educational. If you get an opportunity, make sure to visit the state of the art home for the phenomenal program for young musicians.

The New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy (NWS), prepares graduates of distinguished Music programs for leadership roles in professional orchestras and ensembles. In the 26 years since its inception, NWS has helped launch the careers of more than 900 alumni worldwide.

A laboratory for the way music is taught, presented and experienced, the New World Symphony, under the artistic direction of Michael Tilson Thomas, consists of 87 young musicians who are granted fellowships lasting up to three years. Modeled after the demands of a professional orchestra, the program offers in-depth exposure to traditional and modern repertoire, professional development training and personalized experiences working with leading guest conductors, soloists and visiting faculty. Relationships with these artists are extended through NWS’ pioneering experimentation with distance learning via the internet.

NWS Fellows take advantage of the innovative performance facilities and state-of-the-art practice and ensemble rooms of the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center, the campus of the New World Symphony.

In the hopes of joining NWS, more than 1500 recent music school and conservatory graduates compete for about 35 available fellowships each year. Fellows are selected for this highly competitive, prestigious opportunity based on their ability and their passion for the future of classical music.

FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The New World Symphony’s fellowship program consists of an in-depth course of instructional and performance activities designed to expand the musical and professional horizons of NWS Fellows beyond music school and conservatory training.

Master Classes, Coachings and Private Lessons

New World’s coaching program is unique in its depth and breadth, bringing internationally acclaimed conductors, soloists, and some 100 mentors from the world’s great orchestras to conduct an intensive schedule of master classes, private lessons and sectionals with New World Fellows.

Audition Training and Performance Psychology

The New World Symphony prepares each Fellow for the make-or-break experience of the orchestral audition. Each year, NWS holds an intensive four--day audition training seminar with visiting coaches from major orchestras. NWS provides training by former Olympic sports psychologist Dr. Don Greene, who has been a pioneer in adapting the strategies of sports psychology to help musicians achieve optimal performance in high-pressure settings. In addition, Fellows regularly hold mock auditions to help prepare for upcoming professional auditions.

Performance Opportunities

Performance opportunities include numerous full-orchestra concerts, a chamber music series, new music series, small ensemble concerts, family series, and special festivals and recitals. The program also offers Fellows the opportunity to design and present their own concerts, which often feature seldom-heard works or unusual instrumentation.

Communications Training

NWS emphasizes that musicians must be able to express themselves verbally as well as musically. To that end, Fellows receive training in communications and stage presence, the scope of which includes speaking to audiences from the stage and engaging in informal conversation with patrons and audience members, as well as media interview techniques.

Community Engagement Training

Training for community engagement is an essential part of the NWS program, with activities ranging from mentoring in local schools to free concerts in community centers, churches and synagogues. These activities provide real--life experience in establishing a direct artist-to-audience connection while sharpening presentation, speaking and teaching skills.

ALUMNI

The New World Symphony’s success may be measured in part by the more than 750 alumni who are active in the music profession worldwide. There is a New World Symphony presence in nearly all of America’s major orchestras, as well as symphonies and chamber orchestras in Europe, South America and the Far East. In addition, many New World Symphony musicians have chosen career paths in chamber music, music education and arts management.

INTERNET2 DISTANCE LEARNING

NWS has built global community of the world’s finest performers, educators and Composers who directly transfer their music knowledge and Insight to New World Symphony Fellows, both in Miami Beach and Via Internet2. Internet2, with its enormous bandwidth, speed and quality, Offers a medium perfectly suited to the rigorous demands of musical distance learning, making it possible for artists to address the subtlest aspects of technical and musical performance. In 2001, the National Endowment for the Arts awarded the New World Symphony $200,000 technology grant launching NWS’ Internet2 activities. Internet2 is now an integral part of NWS’ overall education mission.

NEW WORLD SYMPHONY/MEDELLĂŤN COLLABORATION

The New World Symphony is currently in the midst of year-long Support curriculum for a social service/music education program organized by the Orquestra FilarmĂłnicade MedellĂn and EAFIT University in MedellĂn, Colombia. Colombian conductor Alejandro Posada (Principal Conductor Of the Orquesta SinfĂłnicade Castilla y LeĂłn) leads this program, serving 5,000 children and teenagers in the MedellĂn metropolitan area, the majority from underprivileged circumstances. Like Venezuela’s El Sistema, this is a social program in nature, designed to use skill-based musical instrument instruction to develop confidence and self-expression in each and every young participant. The results of the El Sistema program in Venezuela are exemplary. Maestro Posada and his colleagues in the Orquestra FilarmĂłnica and EAFIT University are applying lessons learned by the El Sistema program but tailoring it to the specific needs of youngsters in MedellĂn. To further his mission, Maestro Posada has invited New World Fellows to help train the 100 most talented students through master classes and individual lessons.

New World Symphony is uniquely suited for this work. The musical learning process requires consistent delivery of instruction. NWS Fellows deliver this training to students in MedellĂn over the internet on a weekly basis. Each practice and ensemble room in New World Center is wired for Internet transmission with remote teaching programs in mind. It is important to note, however, that in-person interaction is required to maximize the educational benefit. Therefore, in addition to connecting with 100 of the most talented MedellĂn students over the Internet, a team of New World Fellows will travel to MedellĂn three times during the academic year for in-person music lessons, and side-by-side full orchestra rehearsals and performances. Additionally, five of the finest MedellĂn students will come to Miami twice during the season for instruction and to be part of the New World Symphony family for week, participating in side-by-side chamber rehearsals and performances. These select and most talented MedellĂn students will directly benefit from this program. They will carry their new expertise and energy into the many youth orchestras of MedellĂn, extending the program to the 5,000 total participants. New World Symphony Fellows will observe the inner workings of this social-service-through-classical-music model, and gain valuable experience that they will bring to the communities in which they secure professional positions.

March Ahead With George Tandy, Jr.

George Tandy, Jr's debut radio release "March" is currently ranked #7 on BDS, #5 on Mediabase Urban AC Radio Charts and #7 on the Billboard Adult R&B Chart. "March" is taking the airwaves across the country by storm and is currently a Top 10 song at more than thirty radio stations, currently in rotation in major markets such as New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Dallas, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Atlanta, SiriusXM - Heart and Soul, Detroit, Tampa, St. Louis, Charlotte and many more. The recent premiere of the official video for "March" has the record industry and airwaves buzzing with intrigue. And, this is just the beginning...

George Tandy, Jr. creates brilliant music that is rich with honesty, vulnerability and raw emotion. He is not your typical church singing choir boy or even a classically trained vocalist or pianist, but his messages are conveyed clearly and powerfully. Fans often refer to his voice as hypnotizing and pure. Each piece of music creates an inner journey to a time and place that is unique to the listener. Whether it is about sex, relationships, or worldly affairs you will feel every moment in the song. You can call it R&B, Folk Music or even call it Jazz. Some call it Soul with a hint of Hip Hop and note his Classical music influences. No matter what you call it, you are correct every time. George personally prefers to call his music "Soulternative."

Regardless of genre, his sound is certainly unique and George is determined to gain fans, supporters, as well as, new friends, one song at a time. He believes that music heals people. Soon people all across the world will be proudly stating, "I am Team Tandy!" once they get a taste.

George Tandy Jr. simply comes alive on stage! He creates songs with a witty and introspective mind, and performs them with an electrifying charm that absolutely takes over any venue! Born into a family of artists, music lovers and entertainers George developed a passion for entertaining. Sounds have always intrigued him. As a child you could find George listening intensely to any genre of music, attempting to pick out every instrument in the song. He was inspired early on by his father, George Tandy Sr., a well accomplished jazz musician and producer. Thru the years George has developed the tools and confidence he needed to realize his dreams by cultivating his writing skills, his ear for melody, and his natural ability to entertain. After years of writing and recording songs with his extremely talented siblings as well as training, performing, competing, and touring the world as a hip hop dancer, GTJ decided to venture out as a solo artist. Armed with only his voice and his keyboard he took to the stage. The south Florida spoken word poetry nights and "open mic" scene gained him thousands of dedicated supporters.

George Tandy, Jr. has combined his talent with an independent label, RedStar Entertainment (A Division of Redline Media Group).

With the right team now in place the sky is the limit! Be on the lookout for songs from his first solo project entitled, "The Foundation."

Be a part of Team Tandy!

Derek Trucks and Warren Hayes to Depart Allman Brothers Band

The Allman Brothers Band is an American rock/blues band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman (slide guitar and lead guitar) and Gregg Allman (vocals, organ, songwriting), plus Dickey Betts (lead guitar, vocals, songwriting), Berry Oakley (bass guitar), Butch Trucks (drums), and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson (drums). While the band has been called the principal architects of Southern rock, they also incorporate elements of blues, jazz, and country music, and their live shows have jam band-style improvisation and instrumentals. Two of the groups members are leaving at the end of 2014. Read what each had to say recently regarding their move.

For 25 years and 15 years respectively, we've had the honor and pleasure of playing, living, learning, and traveling with the Allman Brothers Band, one of the truly legendary rock and roll bands. We will be forever grateful for the opportunity and the experience, and for the love, enthusiasm, and support of the incredible fans. We are both preparing to dig even deeper into our various creative and musical endeavors and, as a result, 2014 will be our final year as part of the band. We are looking forward to seeing our loyal ABB fans in March at the Beacon Theater in New York City as we celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the band.
- Warren Haynes & Derek Trucks

A statement from Derek Trucks:

Derek Trucks
I got the call to join the Allman Brothers while on tour with my own band at the age of 19. It was out of the blue and felt surreal. I leapt at the chance. This was the music that I had cut my teeth on and it was the distinctive sound of Duane's guitar that inspired me to pick up the instrument in the first place.

When I started with ABB I didn't know how long it would last, only that I would let the music lead me and teach me. Amazingly that led me past the band's 40th anniversary, to the band's 45th, and now my 15th year as a member of this incredible band. Five years ago the 45th seemed like a lofty goal but I thought if we could make it to that milestone it would be a logical time to move on.

While I've shared many magical moments on stage with the Allman Brothers Band in the last decade plus, I feel that my solo project and the Tedeschi Trucks Band is where my future and creative energy lies. The Tedeschi Trucks Band tour schedule keeps growing, and I feel the time has finally come to focus on a single project, which will allow me to spend that rare time off the road with my family and children. It's a difficult decision to make, and I don't make it lightly.

I'm proud to have made a small contribution to the masterful music they have created over the past forty years, and will continue to create. Now seems like a good time to go out on a high note with a great 45th anniversary in 2014, and the mutual respect and friendship of the other 6 members of ABB.

A Statement from Warren Haynes:

Warren Hayes
I joined the Allman Brothers Band in 1989, at age 28, for a reunion tour with no promise or expectations of it going any further. Based on the success of the tour and the uncanny chemistry between the original members and the new members, we decided to continue and see where it all led. Now, here we are, 25 years later, and it has been an amazing experience. I've always said that if I were to join a band that I grew up listening to the ABB would be at the top of that list. The original version of the band was a huge influence on me and I'm sure that the countless hours I spent listening to and studying that music helped shape me as a musician. As proud as I am of being a member of such a legendary band, I'm even more proud of the music that we've made together and of being a part of carrying their original vision into the future.

As someone who's been fortunate enough to juggle a lot of musical projects and opportunities I look forward to maintaining a vigorous schedule which will include many more years of touring and recording with Gov't Mule in addition to my solo projects and to enjoying more family time as well. Being part of the ABB has opened a lot of doors for me and that's something I don't take for granted nor do I take for granted the friendship and musical relationships I have with each of the members. The 45th Anniversary of the ABB is a milestone amidst too many highlights to count and I'm looking forward to an amazing year creating music that only the Allman Brothers Band can create.
